About Mindy Quesenberry:
Finding the importance of being physically active and healthy became extremely evident after my pregnancy. I was relatively athletic at a young age and my slender build came naturally for me, however having an overweight family history and the pressure of society to stay thin, I hid the underlying fear of gaining weight. Being active in sports and dance kept me fit, however that hidden fear lingered. As I got older, I got caught up with other things in my life, and chose a path of poor dietary choices along with a lack of physical activity. In my early 20's, I joined a gym to help with my poor habits and an increase in weight. |
My background in dance and athletics assisted me in my, at the time, basic fitness knowledge. I began integrating weight training into my regimen, took some classes, and sought out assistance from a trainer. Intrigued, I began self-study. I loved my career in Human Services and thought it would be fun to take my new found love for fitness a step further. I mentored with a lady at a local aerobics studio and later taught some classes there. Through self-study, I eventually learned how to eat properly and the importance of physical health. Ironically, soon after, my husband and I discovered we were pregnant. Excited, but scared of weight gain, I began my journey through pregnancy. My pregnancy started like most, a little weight gain, increased hunger, fatigue, and nausea. It became increasingly easier to push off the gym and throw out my known healthy eating habits. Watching my weight increase, I attempted to try being more active. To my surprise, I developed a physical restriction, which led to physical therapy and a decrease in activity. Before I knew it, I had gained an incredible amount of weight. My starting weight was 140 pounds and I entered the delivery room at 210 pounds. A year later, with minimal weight loss, it was time to conquer the fear that had become a reality.
I joined a gym and dove into a self motivated 12 week nutrition and fitness program. With drive and determination, I transformed from a size 13 to a size 4. Working part-time, I decided to make my love for fitness official. I received a nationally accredited personal training certification and began teaching group fitness classes at my home gym. I spent several years dedicating myself to helping others through my personal experience and education. I took every opportunity I could to establish myself in the fitness community. I owned a kid's fitness business called "Buff kidz" and taught PE at a local private school. With a lot on my plate, a new opportunity came my way and I accepted. I was offered a personal training and group fitness director position at a local gym, that later led to a general management position. Through this position, I was able to quickly observe the needs of people that were at times not able to be met in such a large facility. Knowing that there is a gym for everyone, I knew that there was something missing in this industry. People want to be cared for, listened to, and be provided with help and guidance to achieve their goals. There are so many people feeling lost, uncomfortable, and looked over in larger gym settings. From this, Phases Fitness was designed. It was from personal and past business experience, that Phases is able to truly help people in an environment where they feel welcome, comfortable, educated, accounted and cared for. "Private, Personal, Perfect for you," Phases came right from the heart. |
